A new watercolor in progress

August 18, 2015

My newest and latest beauty.

My latest and greatest watercolor of a little chuparosa dancing over some gorgeous Echinacea. This is stage 4 with many more to go

3rd phase of new work in progress

3rd phase of new work in progress

This was the 3rd phase.  First being the thought and sketching, the choice of colors and paper and what I want to create.  I remember from college that my professor had us think clearly about what we wanted to do.  Even write it down.  I don’t do that very often, but it came back to me wanting to take this one slow and do it for me.

I want to create the gorgeous morning light that lit up these Echinacea flowers of purple, pink and bright glowing orange with a little wispy female chuparosa dancing across her stage.

this is where the idea started.  I love the stage of bright orange heads on these wonderful pinks and purples.

And I adore the background colors and feel in this one.  And this will be the little chupa I’m going to put in my painting.  Right now she is covered in the green misket and it will be very exciting when I get to the point where I can start to paint her.

I’ll keep you posted.

I’m also posting on my FaceBook pages

3rd watercolour – Raspberry Hummingbird w/ Chris B.

January 3, 2015

for the January 30in30 Challenge:

I have been learning quite a bit from this experience already,

1st:  don’t get hung up in the details

and….

2nd:  if what you ‘thought’ you were going to paint that day

is not what you ‘want’ to paint that day……..

Then………Paint What You WANT to paint that day.!    hands down

This watercolor here today is really special to me, first,

this is my FIRST hummingbird EVER in WaterColour.  I have loved these little magical creatures since my first trip to the Rocky Mountains, way back on a trip to Colorado from the Missouri mid-west when I was 17.  wow are they incredible or what?

And second because the flower part of this painting was created back in 1984, the year of my daughters birth and an incredible friendship that blossomed instantly that year as well.  My husband at the time bought me a workshop in watercolor after our second child was born and a painter, me, was born.  But the really cool part is a woman/sister-of-my-heart/instantaneously became friends and out of that super wonderful friendship we painted and drew together.  amazing stuff, when you are with two babies under two all day, ‘mama-mia’.

And the green leafy part on the bottom and the underpainting of the flowers, I painted in Chris’s house of an evening when I was able to just be me…………………

and now I finished it by adding this little magical chuparosa that visit’s our yard (my honey’s and my yard) where the chupas want their lamacrack (we call it)  They fuss and fight over it and therefore are all around our flowers gardens all summer long.

colors used: Hookers Green, Opera Rose, Sap green, China Crimson, Payne’s Grey,

Thanks for visiting and if you would like to add a comment I would love to hear from you.

propsero ano neuvo/ prosperous year new

Happy New Year

I fianlly, actually got inspired to paint again and this time by one of my own photographs too:

I did paint my favorite photograph (probably of all time) of my little Pigmy Nuthatch on Yupo paper:

( click the image and it will take you to my Etsy shop)

September last year. But I really wanted to paint one of my birds on watercolor paper, there is a difference for sure.

I loved this image of a little Song Sparrow I took the other morning down on the rio   ‘Song Sparrow tangled in Pink’

The true painting will emerge when my studio guy does his magic and captures my painting in all it’s nuisances of color and hue.

This photo is from the first image after I started.  I forget to capture the different stages that I create, sorry……

you can really see the misket here, it’s the dull brownish lines.  I think this is one of the funnest parts of watercolour for me, is using misket.  Sometimes I really start to like what’s happening as I paint around it and with it, so when I take it off, I have to re-see the piece with fresh eyes.  But when I take it off it feels like Christmas to me.  I really, really love that part.

just need to set up my big camera so I can post this for sale

It has felt so good to paint again.  To have the time and the space and the freedom to take this time, to get back to my bliss.

love them when I find a gem amongst the fence posts, ugly bushes and road signs (yuck)……..
