too, too long

October 20, 2013

I’ve been neglecting my blog, my art, my exercise too.  I just cannot fit it all in.  How do people who work 30- to 40 or more hours every single week get anything done’?

I adore flowers, I always ALWAYS have.  I paint them, I notice them, I want to crawl into them,  I love the fragrances of them, the colors of them.  I just Adore Flowers

‘this is what I woke up too’

I bought this daylily blooming last summer and set around my yard for a few days.  You know to get the feel of where it wants to be.  Always somewhere I can see from one of my windows (Preferably the long, floor to ceiling Pella south-east window). And the light through it as the sun was setting told me that this was the spot.  And this is the morning light through here in these shots.

Do you or have you ever seen these?  They are just so lovely and elegant.

These are the beautiful seeds/babies of these winding, curvy bright green onions.  They are like big hollow chives but way cooler.  I have some other photos of these I’ll have to dig out.

I’m not positive what these are called but I love them.  They always remind me of a dear friend I use to know. Her name is Chris and we met in a watercolour painting class together back in 1984.  We use to go draw and paint together.  Fast friends right from the start and we both knew it instantly.  (Chris B I hope you are reading this and know it’s me).

BeLoved HollyHocks

BeLoved HollyHocks

For some reason in my early 20’s I didn’t think I liked hollyhocks, have no real recollection of why-not.  anyway…. I so love mine.  I’ve been trying for years to grow these wonderful graceful, bright, beautiful flowers.  I’ve have finally succeeded with this amazing bright pink one.

Blue Mist love bush

Blue Mist love bush

I never knew about this bush until I came to New Mexico and I went on a tile job with my honey.  This client of Len’s had these hugh glowing purple bushes in the middle of the summer growing all over his property.  And I feel in love again (seems I love lots of flowers)  Hummingbirds were everywhere all over it.

My girlfriend Peggy sold me this one when she ran the Garden Center in Taos.  She knows so much and just amazes me with all the info she has about flowers, plants and design stored in her wonderful brain.

watercolor cosmos are where I’m at right now

July 13, 2013
'Basket of Summer' watercolor on paper 9x12 CheyAnne Sexton

‘Basket of Summer’ watercolor on paper 9×12 CheyAnne Sexton

This was my first attempt without drawing it out first. Plein air painting from my easy chair looking out into my garden.  I did lay down some misket (I love that stuff).  And my kinda first attempt at multi-petaled flowers too.  Not so sure how to go about them.  I really like a few of them tho, especially the one on the bottom right and how it’s hanging in the air.   At least that’s how it looks me.

I went to youtube to do some research  and found a great 2 part video that inspired me to finish when I got stuck.

Painting Flowers Loosely in watercolour part 2 of 2 by Peter Wood

I watched the number 2 part of this first and then went looking for number one.  I love how he adds dabs and dabs of little bits of color to create depth  and vibrance to his painting.  And what an undertaking to paint such a garden as this.  I want to try this now.

Here is my second much freer attempt:

'White cosmos over Orange' watercolor on paper 9x12 CheyAnne Sexton

‘White cosmos over Orange’ watercolor on paper 9×12 CheyAnne Sexton

This one I didn’t draw or even add misket too,  which I am pretty proud of.  I just started at the top and worked my way down.  When white of the paper was there I created another flower or a bud.  Now I’m off to try more.

Both originals are for sale and giclee prints upon request.  If you click the picture it ought to take you straight to my Etsy store where you can purchase them.  Let me know you found it here and I will pay for shipping.

Love hearing what you think or feel so please leave a comment.

Peace n Abundance,

CheyAnne
