3rd watercolour – Raspberry Hummingbird w/ Chris B.

January 3, 2015

for the January 30in30 Challenge:

I have been learning quite a bit from this experience already,

1st:  don’t get hung up in the details

and….

2nd:  if what you ‘thought’ you were going to paint that day

is not what you ‘want’ to paint that day……..

Then………Paint What You WANT to paint that day.!    hands down

This watercolor here today is really special to me, first,

this is my FIRST hummingbird EVER in WaterColour.  I have loved these little magical creatures since my first trip to the Rocky Mountains, way back on a trip to Colorado from the Missouri mid-west when I was 17.  wow are they incredible or what?

And second because the flower part of this painting was created back in 1984, the year of my daughters birth and an incredible friendship that blossomed instantly that year as well.  My husband at the time bought me a workshop in watercolor after our second child was born and a painter, me, was born.  But the really cool part is a woman/sister-of-my-heart/instantaneously became friends and out of that super wonderful friendship we painted and drew together.  amazing stuff, when you are with two babies under two all day, ‘mama-mia’.

And the green leafy part on the bottom and the underpainting of the flowers, I painted in Chris’s house of an evening when I was able to just be me…………………

and now I finished it by adding this little magical chuparosa that visit’s our yard (my honey’s and my yard) where the chupas want their lamacrack (we call it)  They fuss and fight over it and therefore are all around our flowers gardens all summer long.

colors used: Hookers Green, Opera Rose, Sap green, China Crimson, Payne’s Grey,

Thanks for visiting and if you would like to add a comment I would love to hear from you.

propsero ano neuvo/ prosperous year new

so I started painting them, (wow am I out of practice painting from real life).  I use to do this kind of small, detail painting all the time.  Now my tastes are running to the more abstract and how the colors feel.

Like this beauty of an apple/olive/old gnarly  blossoming springtime tree, out of my imagination.

Getting my ideas in order for the ’30in30′    A few weeks back I  started getting my watercolor pallets ready for painting big.  I do love my big pallet that I have had for many, many years, well since college in my 30’s. All of my professors always wanted me to paint big, “bigger”, they would say.  So I bought a big pallet for the time I would paint bigger.  My little 5×7 to 8×10 size format of prefrence back then can be very limiting some times.  But I realized that part painting so small was because it was easier to pick every thing up or pull everything out when I had small children.

My paint/ pallete sorting was a big undertaking and time consuming and I won’t bore you with the details, (unless you are interested in it for another post?? maybe)…

I’ve also been taking a paper survey.  I want to make sure I am all set up to get started on this exciting challenge.  I am going to push myself to paint a little something every, single, day. !  And my son told me today that he is going to hold me too that statement.  A little daunting, but I really, really want to do this and I trully believe the timing is right.  2015 is going to be an incredible year and I’m excited to be getting my love of painting and therefore my business of selling my art off to a great start this year.

Just filling you in on what’s going on in my little space on this Earth called Sophia, Gia, Mother Earth.

Happy Winter Celebration
